Dear Parents

ISI Inspection Report
As you are aware, the ISI Inspectorate visited us earlier in the term.  This was a Regulatory Compliance Inspection (RCI), where no judgments are made other than whether we are satisfying the regulatory requirements.  This is a rigorous process, nonetheless, where all of the school’s policies and procedures are scrutinised, along with their implementation.  This included lesson observations, analysis of pupils’ work and interviews with staff and children. You will be reassured to hear that all standards were met, and there were no recommendations for further action.  The next, much fuller Educational Quality Inspection (EQI) will now follow in about three years’ time.  The report is posted on the front page of the school website.

Headmaster’s Breakfast
Thank you to all parents who stepped forward to represent their year groups at the two Headmaster’s Breakfasts this term.  The minutes from both meetings will be sent to the reps for comment, and will appear on the Parents’ Area of the website when they have been agreed.  I hope you will find them useful.

Open Afternoon
The weather forecast for Open Day tomorrow looks very positive, so we will have a huge Parents’ Tea on the Front Lawn from 4.00 pm and all other activities should run as planned.  In the (currently very unlikely) event of inclement weather we will retire to the Dining Room and Music School for tea. We hope you enjoy the afternoon.

Displays and classrooms will be manned where possible in both the Pre-Prep and the Prep School.  Do take a stroll through the allotments and woodlands to see the Forest School, a short walk from the ponds and campsite, where you will find Mrs Welch cooking by the fire.  Throughout the afternoon, Mr Loe will be directing artists upstairs in his garret, Mr Jeremiah and his designers will be in their workshop and the scientists will be hosting an interactive display looking at the science of food.  Meanwhile, Mr Ashworth will also be showing new and exciting developments in school computing and Mrs Brown will be in the Food Technology Department, while the Pre-Prep, Year 3, Learning Support, English, Maths and French areas will also be manned by teachers.

Fathers and Sons cricket will be over the road as usual and the Mothers and Daughters Rounders in the lower field.  The Tennis Tournament will proceed from 2.00 pm. The swimming pool will be in operation later in the afternoon (from 2.45 pm) with Mrs Katie Hudson.  The Flute Choir and Saxonets will play in the Music Courtyard at 2.00pm with the musical entertainment continuing in the Recital Room at 2.30pm.

Dragons’ Den
Well done to all the pupils who presented so convincingly to the FoDS Dragons' Den last week.  After much consideration, the committee will be supporting the purchase of a 3D–Printer for the ICT Department (Yr 7 - Elliot P and JJ H), along with two new wheel barrows for the allotments (Yr 5 - Millicent C and Jacob P) and a new traffic calming road sign for the car park, designed by the pupils (Yr 6 – Lucy S).  At the same time, presentations for Google Virtual Reality viewers (Yr 3 - Peter T and Megan C) and LED Stage Lighting (Yr 8 – Angus W, Yr 7 - Alex T) were excellent, and definitely projects for the future.  Thank you to Dumpton parent Catherine Oliver (Yr 1) for chairing the process.

Maths Stars
Well done to the pupils who have achieved gold, silver and bronze awards in the recent Junior Mathematics Challenge. Particular mention should go to Louis G who was top of Year 8, William S ‘best in year’ in Year 7, and Lauren F who topped Year 6.

Year 2 Swimming Gala
A big thank you also to Mrs Katie Hudson, and the Year 2 staff for organising such an enjoyable swimming gala on Monday afternoon, along with the Year 8 pupils who made such excellent lifeguards in the pool.  The children did us proud, and were very grateful for the support of so many parents poolside.

Sport and Sports Day
Mr Randle has asked me to remind you that we have many matches on the Wednesday following the break and the teams will be on the website as usual.  He will e-mail all Prep School parents in the week after half term asking for pupils to select their events for Sports Day on Wednesday 21 June.

The Big Top comes to Dumpton
As soon as we return after half-term we are gearing up for all the fun of the Big Top Ball.  This will begin with a Big Top Circus Skills Day on Monday 5 June, including all children in the Pre-Prep and Years 3-5 in the Prep School.  This will be followed by a Big Top Art Day in the Pre-Prep on Tuesday 6 June, followed by the Big Top Gallery on Wednesday 7 June from 3.00 - 4.15 pm at which Pre-Prep parents would be welcome.

With best wishes for the half term break.

Yours sincerely
Andrew Browning
Headmaster
