IAPS National Hockey Finalists
Many congratulations to the U11 boys who had a 14 hour day last Friday, from 6 am to 8 pm, on their trip to the IAPS Hockey Regional Tournament at Clifton College, Bristol. They were unbeaten in their first six matches on their way to the final, which they lost narrowly, but have now qualified for the IAPS Nationals at Cranleigh on Monday 14 March. Well done to all.
We took an impressive squad to the IAPS Swimming Heats at Clayesmore on Tuesday, with 30 pupils competing in a series of relays and individual events. Each competitor swam very well and all of them placed strongly in their events; particular mention should go to Jessica K, Robbie H, Finn R and James B for excellent individual performances. Each of our relay teams placed either first or second in their races. We now have a nervous wait to see how many of the swimmers qualify (on their swim times) for the Nationals at the K2 Centre, Crawley on Saturday 7 May. Thank you all for representing Dumpton.
Meanwhile, the Year 7 girls performed very well at the U12 PEDSSA tournament yesterday, winning all eight of their matches, beating Parkstone Grammar 10-2 in the final. They have now qualified for the County Championships at Bournemouth School for Girls on Saturday 5 March.
Other Sporting News
Well done to the 1st VII hockey side who battled hard at the Canford Tournament, with wins over Castle Court and Perrott Hill, and also to the U9 girls who reached the semi-finals of their netball tournament at BCPS. It was a pleasure to watch our eight-team U8 Rugby Festival here at Dumpton, with blue skies and sunshine for a change....
Mr Ashworth would like to give all parents advanced warning of his plans for the Summer Club this year. It proved extremely popular last summer, with numbers growing as the weeks progressed. It was full for many of the days, suggesting that advanced booking would be advisable. The dates will once again include the first two weeks of the summer holiday (Monday 11 July – Friday 15 July and Monday 18 July – Friday 22 July). The sessions will be open to pupils from Year 1 through to Year 8, and will be an exciting mixture of cooking, bushcraft skills, tie-dye, mountain-biking, tennis, kite building/flying, swimming, programmable toys and more. Mr Ashworth will post a form in the Parents’ Area of the website at half-term with more information and booking procedures.
Straight after half-term we have the Year 5 Parents’ Meeting on Tuesday (23 February) …. then the Reception outing to Moors Valley Country Park and Forest on Thursday (25 February) ….. and the Year 2 Drumming Day with Noah on Friday (26 February) along with an Informal Lunchtime Concert from 1.30 pm in the new Recital Room.
And finally …
‘Powerful’, ‘Touching’ and ‘Funny’- just a few of the words used in the press to describe Mr Moulton’s latest show ‘Shadowlands’ which is being performed at the Tivoli next week (from Thursday through to Saturday). Tickets are still available if you are free.
