A number of our Year 6 and 7 pupils participated in the Bryanston Science Essay Competition this year, with titles inspired by Tim Peake’s exploits on the International Space Station. We were delighted that, with over 70 entrants, a number of our pupils received commendations for their efforts including Jasmine D, Lucy H, Rosie I, Annabel K, Charlotte M, Rebecca M and Molly T in the Biology Section, and Niamh T in Physics.
In addition, Will B wrote very creatively to be placed second overall in Biology with an essay entitled "The effects of long-term space travel on the biology of the body". The overall winner of the competition, across all three science sections, was Bella H, with her very impressive Chemistry essay "Types of rocket fuel for space flight". Well done to all who took part. Essays will soon be available in the Front Hall for those who would like to know more!
News from the Pre-Prep and Nursery
The Reception children enjoyed a delightful day in the sunshine at Moors Valley Country Park yesterday and, rather optimistically, were telling me that summer has finally arrived. Well done to the Year 2 pupils for their excellent Drumming today – I hope the parents enjoyed the impressive concert at the end of the day staged by Noah and the children.
Music at Dumpton
A big thank you to all the musicians who took part in the Informal Lunchtime Concert in the Recital Room today. It was a pleasure to watch the full-range of talents on show, from beginners to extremely polished performers, and such a variety of different instruments. We had a full house too!
From Monday we have the Book Fair in the Library for the whole of the week. Miss Fox has sent home a letter with details of when your child will be visiting the fair and how to purchase books.
We have had a very successful week with 20+ fixtures against a host of other schools, and a very busy day here at school. Of particular note was an impressive 3rd place for the senior girls at the Farleigh Netball Tournament, and a competitive 4th place at the West Hill Park Tournament for the 1st VII boys’ hockey side. A big thank you, as ever, to Steph and her team for the excellent match teas.
Thank you again for your positive response to the Year 5 Parents’ Evening this week. The Year 7 evening now follows next week on Tuesday 1 March, the penultimate meeting in the series. A big thank you should go to Mrs Sharp again for her faultless organisation.
