World Book Day
Every year on World Book Day, all children of school age are issued with a free £1 book token and your child should have been given this by their English Teachers over the last couple of days. The token is redeemable in all participating bookshops and there are 10 fantastic titles to choose from. Please see the website: www.worldbookday.com for more details. The Book Fair has been extremely busy this week - always a positive in a school!
Very well done to Ruby K, Jessica K and Sofia C who have won Music, Sport and All-Rounder Scholarships respectively from Talbot Heath. Ruby K also won Music and Drama Scholarships to BCS earlier in the term. Similarly, congratulations to Lily G and Sophie T who have both won Academic Awards to Bryanston, and Nathan C who has won a Sport Scholarship to Clayesmore. This brings the total of awards to Dumptonians this year to 13, with much news still to come.
The Dumpton Drama Group (involving a number of Year 7 and 8 pupils) have been rehearsing their two plays, ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’ and ‘Gizmo’ (both by Alan Ayckbourn) throughout this term and have now reached the point where they are ready (hopefully!) to perform to an audience. The ‘show’ will start at 5.00pm next Thursday 10 March, as listed in the Programme of Events, in the Assembly Hall, with ‘Ernie’ the first to be staged, followed by a short interval and ‘Gizmo’ rounding off the evening.
The plays are reasonably short and so the whole evening should be over by around 6.30-6.45pm. This will mean that the children involved won’t be able to travel on a school bus that evening, so please arrange to pick your child up from school after the play is over. In a change to the published timings, the Friday performance will be a matinee, starting at 2.30pm and finishing at 4.00-4.15pm. Please contact either of us if you need any further details – firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
Congratulations to the U10 and U12 boys hockey sides who both travelled over to King’s School, Bruton for their annual tournament - both played superbly, coming runners-up on the day. Both sides beat some excellent hockey schools, with scalps including Millfield, Hazelgrove and Queen’s College, Taunton and should be quietly proud of their silver medals. Well done to all involved. The temperature certainly dipped back here at Dumpton, but all fixtures were very well-supported as ever, with some exciting matches. A big thank you to all the parents who braved the icy conditions and well done to all the pupils for sticking to the task.
Well done to the U11 netballers who played at the Regional IAPS Tournament at Port Regis yesterday. They had a very enjoyable day, topping their group, and coming third overall, qualifying for the IAPS Nationals at Roedean on Saturday 12 March as a result. Well done girls. We now await news from the U12 and U13 sides which are doing battle at Port Regis in their corresponding competitions as I write. Good luck also to the U12 and U13 sides who are playing in the County Championships at Bournemouth School for Girls tomorrow morning as well.
Cross Country at Bryanston
Similarly, Mr Loe reported that his cross country runners did him proud yesterday. Running a tough relay course over hilly and muddy terrain Oscar W and Joe W both ran a very impressive leg, with their times 5th and 6th respectively out of 48 runners. A big thank you to all those Year 7 and Year 8 boys who ran for the school.
Year 6 Parents’ Evening
We have the last in our series of Parents’ Meetings on Tuesday 8 March from 5 pm. Thank you to Year 7 parents for your positive comments last Tuesday, and thank you Mrs Sharp for her careful organisation of all six evenings this term, with around 2000+ appointments booked.
