Ernie and Gizmo
A big thank you to all the pupils and staff involved in these entertaining plays on Thursday and Friday this week. ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’ and ‘Gizmo’ are both ideal as prep school productions, giving a large number of pupils the chance to develop a range of characters. The cast worked hard in the drama hobby slots this term and last, producing memorable performances on a very limited timescale. Very well done – and special mention to Miss Anson who juggled both productions, and to Mr Nye, ever present on the keyboards.
Bob Mizon and his inflatable planetarium will be in on Monday to visit the Prep School and Pre-Prep. He will lead School Assembly and then invite many of the lower school classes into his world of planets, black holes and super novae. Budding astronomers may be interested to note that Bob is bringing in some asteroids and souvenirs that can be purchased at lunchtime in his Pop-up Shop.

Summer Party tickets will go on sale from Monday 14 March. Please see the attached flyer and booking form. Details of the Easter Egg Hunt and Competition taking place on the last day of this term will be sent home in book bags next week.
Music at Dumpton
Well done to all the guitarists who entertained us so well on Tuesday lunchtime at the concert in the Recital Room. Thank you also to Mr Albin for all his hard work in preparing his students – he now has 42 on his books in the Prep School, nearly 20% of the pupils! Year 4 pupils have had a very busy end to their week – they are performing in a concert at Canford School as part of the Prep School Singing Festival as I type.
News from the Pre-Prep
Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Streetwise on Tuesday. They learnt about potential dangers in the everyday world around them in a safe and controlled environment. The coming days are set to be busy with outings for Reception to Farmer Palmers on Friday 18 March, Year 1 to the Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester on Tuesday 15 March and also to Streets Meadow on Thursday 17 March. The following Tuesday (22 March) Year 2 are going to Streets Meadow.
IAPS South-West Netball Champions
The U12 girls did us proud at their IAPS Regional Tournament last Friday, winning all six games on the day to become IAPS South West Champions. They will be joining the U11 girls on the road to the IAPS Nationals at Roedean early tomorrow morning. The U13 girls also had a very successful day at Port Regis, winning every match in their group before losing tantalisingly 9-8 against Hanford, when playing for a place in the National Finals.
Dorset Netball Championships
The U13 team then bounced back impressively from their disappointment the previous day, winning every game in their group at the Dorset Schools Championships, against some schools with 150+ girls to choose from. They then turned the tables on Hanford, winning 10-5 in the semi-final before losing narrowly in the final to Talbot Heath. The U12 girls had another excellent day, winning every game on the way to the final against Talbot Heath, which they won convincingly 10-0 in becoming Dorset Schools County Champions. Very well done to all.
Many congratulations to Niamh T who has just returned from the British Independent Schools Alpine Championships with a clutch of medals, including 1st in the Giant Slalom, 1st in the U12 Combi and 1st U12 girl overall. Outstanding!
Next week we have a party of 29 Year 6-8 pupils leaving for Reykjavik, led by Mrs Sharp, Mr Nye, Mr Ashworth and Miss Turrill. They are looking forward to an eclectic mix of activities and a very busy few days. With the Bursar away at a family wedding too, this leaves me as the first point of contact in most areas from Wednesday, but I know colleagues have all left plans to minimise any disruption while they are away.
And finally …
Planning ahead, next Friday (18 March) is Sports Relief Day in the Prep and Pre-Prep School. It has been suggested that children (and staff) may come to school in their favourite sports kit or Mufti if they prefer, for a donation of £1. There will be a number of fun events during the day, including a ‘Cross Bar Challenge’, continuous 5-a-side football and netball from 1.30pm through to 4.30pm, involving all year groups and staff.
