Scholarship Successes …
……have continued with two Academic Scholarships to Canford, for Maddy H and Freddie H. In addition, Henry D has won an All-Rounder Exhibition to Clayesmore. This brings the total number of awards this year to 16 – very well done to all involved.
Iceland calling …
Thank you to all the parents who came into school at an unsociable hour on Wednesday morning to wave their children off on the exciting Year 6-8 trip this week. The pupils are enjoying an amazing range of experiences, from the Northern lights and giant greenhouse cultivation centres to volcanic landscapes and geothermal lakes, and we look forward to hearing all about it from 10.30 pm on Sunday evening. Thank you again for your support… LINK: Iceland Blog
IAPS National Finalists x 3!
The U11 and U12 Netball sides had a lovely day in the sun at Roedean on Saturday at the IAPS National Netball Finals, battling against the best of the 600 Prep School sides in the country. This is the tenth year in succession that we have made the long drive along the south coast to the nationals, and once again the girls did us proud, playing some great netball and winning some tight matches. The U12 side finished third in their group, just pipped for a place in the semi-finals. The U11 boys hockey side then made the slightly shorter journey to Cranleigh for their IAPS National Finals on Monday. They were very competitive, with all group games either drawn or settled by the odd goal. The boys also ended up tantalisingly short of qualification for the knockout stage, before winning their last two games in the plate very convincingly. A huge thank you to all the coaches and parents who supported us on these adventures - and an even bigger well done to all the girls and boys.
Model United Nations Day
Ten members of Year 7 had a busy time trying to solve the world's problems at Clayesmore Senior School's Model United Nations Day on Tuesday. Split into two teams, representing Iran and USA respectively, they discussed such vital issues as terrorism, water scarcity and child soldiers. It is not easy speaking to a room full of strangers about issues like these, imagining what another nation's view might be and all the time observing the protocols that the real UN use. Our pupils really enjoyed the afternoon and out of over 70 delegates from other schools we were awarded four 'Commended' certificates and two 'Highly Commended'.
The last Wednesday block of term had the usual array of 20+ fixtures with a mixture of exciting wins and narrow defeats. Particularly well done to the U11 Boys’ Hockey side who travelled to the Canford Tournament, winning through to the final where they beat Castle Court 4-2 to win the trophy – a welcome boost after the relative disappointment of Monday.
From the Music Department
Well done to the Year 4 pupils who represented the school with such enthusiasm at the Prep Schools’ Singing Festival at Canford last Friday. We currently have around 30 pupils rehearsing for the ABRSM examinations which take place next Monday and Tuesday – given the level of performance at recent assemblies and concerts they seem to be well on course … well done and good luck!
Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Decorating Competition
Just a quick reminder that the Easter Egg Hunt will be starting from 10.15 am for Nursery children and parents next Thursday. Please come to the front of the main house from 10.00 am. The rest of the Pre-Prep will be joining in at various stages, and we are hoping for a sunny spring day to finish our term! You will also have received information regarding the Year 1 and 2 Easter Egg decorating competition – the eggs will be on display in the Front Hall on the last day of term.
