Easter Egg Hunt
A big thank you to all the FODS and Nursery parents who supported our Easter Egg Hunt today. We were so grateful to all the FODs Committee, led by Sarah Schiel, and extra helpers who were excellent hosts for the day – and it was good to see the smiling faces of all the children as they searched for the eggs in the adventure playground. We then retired to the Front Hall for hot cross buns and coffee. They continued their good work with Year 1 and Year 2 after lunch! Some of the photographs from the morning can be found on the parents’ area of the website. There were also enough chocolate eggs to ensure that every member of the school left for the Easter break with a smile on their face.
Continuing with the theme of new life, well done and thank you to Flora and JJ H (Years 7 and 6 respectively) who brought three orphaned lambs into school. They occupied the chicken run in the morning (while the hens were away), allowing many members of the school to feed and hold them. It was a real education for all. We have celebrated the occasion with a display of photographs in the link.
Congratulations to the Dumpton swimmers who have qualified for the IAPS National Swimming Championships at the K2 Centre, Crawley on 7 May 2016. Jessica K qualified for the 50m Freestyle, and Robbie H the 50m backstroke, while the U13 Girls medley relay team of Jessica, Maddy H, Ruby R and Eloise W have also won through. Fingers crossed next term.
Cross Country at Canford
We took 36 runners from Year 4 to Year 8, to this local PEDSSA event. There were top 10 finishes across the age groups with the Year 5 Girls team coming second and the Year 8 Boys team coming third. Individual mentions must go to Dominque H for a 6th, Oscar W and Rosie I for finishing 5th, Rosie C who came an impressive 2nd and Joe W who finished 1st, a fitting reward for his efforts through the season.
A message from Mr Ashworth: The Summer Club is filling up faster than ever before, so please do book early (online) to avoid disappointment. A reminder that the dates are Week 1: Mon 11 July – Fri 15 July and Week 2: Mon 18 July – Fri 22 July.
The school allotments have come to life this week, with groups of up to 50 pupils digging in earnest every lunch time - many have already prepared their 1 metre squares for planting. Much fun has been had in the sunshine, and the school greenhouse is already full of germinating seeds. If you would like your son or daughter to be involved next term, please send them back with wellington boots and gardening gloves if possible. Thank you.
Salvete and Valete
Advanced notice that Monique Tricot and Geoff Jones will be leaving Dumpton at the end of the Summer Term after 60+ years’ service between them. I will be celebrating their huge contribution at Speech Day. Mr Edmonds will be leaving Dumpton at the end of the Summer Term, after 4 successful years teaching in Year 3, and will be replaced by Mr Robert Cox, who is currently teaching in a local primary school. We have also appointed Miss Hammick to teach in the junior years from September.
FODS Summer Party: Message from the Chair
Two thirds of the tables have already been sold for the FODS Summer Party. There are several still available, but please don’t forget to reserve yours after the Easter holiday to avoid disappointment. Please note that BACs payments should be made direct to FODS (bank details are on the booking form).
The Summer Term starts on Monday 18 April 2016 and all children should return in their summer uniform (shorts for boys from Year 3 to Year 5). Once again, to stagger the demands on the car park on the first day back, we would be very happy if the Pre-Prep parents dropped off their children a little later at 8.45 am. Of course those with siblings in the Prep School will be welcomed at the usual time. There will be a Whole School photograph on the second day back, Tuesday 19 April. We will ask all boys to wear long trousers and ties with their blazers on this occasion.
And finally ….
We wish our squad of tennis players, accompanied by Mrs Cox and Mr Jeremiah, all the best on their trip to the Algarve next week. We hope the sun shines for them throughout.
