Senior School Scholarships
Thank you to all those who have expressed an interest in the Senior Schools Scholarship Meeting next Tuesday (3 May) night. Drinks will be served in the new Recital Room, prior to the meeting at 7.30 pm. Do please feel free to add your name to the list via Lerryn (01202 883818 or email@example.com) – all are welcome.
Thank you to all parents who completed the recent survey informing us of your current views of Dumpton. The Governors were very reassured by the high % of ’excellent’ and ‘good’ ratings across a wide range of questions. Amongst the many positive comments we noted some areas of concern, and invited parents to discuss these further. Some preferred to share their views, by phone, others in a one to one meeting. We also invited interested parents to come in for a cup of coffee and a chance for open discussion, where every point raised had a clear action from us. Topics of general discussion included food, the role of sport in the school and communication of academic progress through the year. Others were more specific, but were taken equally seriously. We will continue to seek feedback on a regular basis, but if you have a concern, please don’t wait for the next questionnaire. My PA, Lerryn (01202-883818) will always be on hand to arrange a slot.
To facilitate such discussions it has been proposed that we have a Parent Committee, with representatives from each year group, meeting once a term. The FODs Committee will advertise for nominations and a list will then be published to allow all parents in each year group to raise any issues with their year group representative. It is anticipated that such reps will change termly. We hope this will be a useful conduit for information both to and from the school. We will host the first meeting next term – watch this space…
From the Chair of FODS
A reminder that the last date to purchase tickets for the Summer Party on Friday 10 June is Friday 27 May. In addition, please start to gather unwanted foreign coins from the backs of wardrobes and pockets of suitcases. These will be collected at school to raise money for Awake Mercy. Information to follow in book bags.
Snow in April …
Having experienced sun, cloud, rain, hail, and the odd flake of snow while umpiring on Wednesday afternoon, I was delighted that we managed to complete all 16 fixtures on the cricket and rounders fields this week. Well done to all the teams who battled very well in some close games, winning around half of them. There was an encouraging draw for the 1st XI cricket team against Chafyn Grove and a very narrow loss for the 1st IX rounders team against Walhampton.
Junior SATIPS Orchestra
We had an excellent afternoon at Bryanston at the Junior SATIPS Orchestral Day on Tuesday. The children played really well in the two orchestral pieces ‘Movie Busters’ and ‘Somewhere Out There’. Each orchestral group then played an ensemble piece working with eight other Prep schools. Well done to all involved.
Following on from last year’s success, the Dumpton ski team is looking for new members to take part in dry slope and indoor snow dome races this term and in September. Please email Dumpton parent Nicole Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest and find out more details.
Year 6 visit France
A large group of Year 6 pupils left very early this morning in good time for their early sailing, accompanied by Madame Tulodziecki, Mr Price, Mr Moulton, Matron Stokes and Mr Tiller. They have an exciting itinerary ahead, including visits to the Bayeux tapestry, the World War 2 site at La Pointe du Hoc and a French market to buy lunch. They will also enjoy a guided walk across the bay from the famous Mont St Michel.
Mr Ashworth’s Summer Club is filling up nicely! This was a great success last summer, with many sessions oversubscribed, particularly in the first week. The combination of pizza making, bushcraft, mountain-biking, T-shirt design and swimming, amongst other things, seemed to capture the imagination of the children and we look forward to more of the same this year. Do please click on this link if you would like to.
Year 4 pupils are set to camp overnight here at Dumpton on Friday under the watchful eye of Mrs Welch, Mr Smith, Miss Ford and Mr Hampton (assuming the weather improves a little) before that, the Romans are coming - Year 6 will be enjoying a Roman Day next Thursday incorporating Food Technology, History, Latin, Art and several other areas of interest. We look forward to seeing some togas around the school…
With best wishes for the Bank Holiday weekend.
