Well done to all the musicians for a delightful week of music in celebration of the opening of the new Music School. The programme for the Informal Concert on Monday lunchtime was packed full of keen, talented, young musicians queueing up to play in the new Recital Room. Similarly, the Senior Soloist Concert on Tuesday evening featured some outstanding performances, many in their last term at Dumpton. Thursday afternoon was also a real treat as Old Dumptonian Will McNicol led Mr Albin’s guitarists in two workshops, followed by an impressive concert and recital in the evening. Finally, this evening we will be enjoying listening to ten or so Old Dumptonian Senior School Music Scholars from the past ten years as Garth and Barbie Watson formally open the building. A big thank you must go to Mrs Watkiss – it has been a very busy week!
National Swimming Champions!
I would like to congratulate the Year 8 girls’ relay team (Jessica K, Maddy H, Eloise W and Ruby R) on making Dumpton history by being our first relay team to attend the IAPS National Finals.
We also took Robbie H (50m backstroke) and Jessica K (50m freestyle) up to the K2 Centre in Crawley as two individual finalists. In the heats Robbie set a PB of 32.50s, and qualifying fastest for the final, and then swam a controlled race to finish first in a time of 32.52s (1.46 sec quicker than 2nd place). After a long wait Jess Kelleway was in the very last event of the day. In her heat, Jess had also set a PB of 28.66s, progressing through to the final as the fastest qualifier, she too went on to win the final in a time of 28.97s.
We would like to congratulate both Robbie and Jess on being the first Dumpton swimmers to be IAPS National Champions. Outstanding!
Thank you for supporting our India Mufti Day today. It is one of our most colourful days, with an array of outfits and a special curry from Steph. Funds collected will be sent to the Awake Mercy Children’s Home in Tamil Nadu, where they will sponsor one destitute child for a year, feeding, clothing and educating them, and effectively lifting them out of poverty. Thank you also to the FODS initiative, collecting holiday currency for donation to the charity. A total of £300+ has been raised so far.
Year 4 Camp Take 2
Good luck to 4P who are camping in the grounds with Mrs Welch and her team this evening. The weather again looks set to be fair(ish) and I am sure that they will enjoy themselves just as much as 4G did - although I hope they get a little more sleep than their peers last week …
Counting Chickens …
The Science Labs have been even more popular than usual over the past 48 hours as pupils have queued up to see some real biology in action. I am sure many of you have also been keeping up to date with the story of the eleven fertilised eggs by viewing the live feed on the Dumpton website. The chicks have been hatching one-by-one over the past few days and Mrs Sharp is delighted to announce a 100% record!
Year 3 - 6 Exams
The exam season is fast approaching but we will endeavour to make this as painless and productive as possible for the children. If you are interested in examples of questions for the Junior Exams please do look on the Parents' Area of the website; you will hopefully see the booklet given out at the Parents’ Seminar delivered by Mrs Sharp last term.
On Monday in the Prep School Assembly we will have a visit from Annie Bentley, the Schools’ Coordinator from Monkey World. This will involve an interactive session on their international work, which is so important for the protection of monkeys around the world and the controlled breeding of endangered species. Annie will also ask pupils if they would consider filling a shoebox with suitable items to support the monkeys, including food and an array of possible toys. Each shoebox donated will automatically be entered into a raffle, and the winner will receive a family day pass for Monkey World. We will send further details next week.
FODs Summer Party - only the last few tables are still available so please hand in your requests for tickets at the Front Office before it’s too late…
And finally …
Members of the Dumpton community will be getting their trainers on for good causes over the coming days and weeks. Lisa Daniels (Year 8 Mum) will be doing the Moonwalk 2016 Marathon around London on Saturday 14 May, raising money for Breast Cancer, (http://wtwalk.org/moonwalklondon2016/lisa-42) while a group of Pre-Prep staff will be taking part in the Bournemouth Race for Life on 12 June (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sharonmorton5). Best wishes to them all.
