This week’s letter will concentrate mainly on the Open Afternoon scheduled for next Friday (27 May). The start time is staggered to avoid gridlock in the Colehill area. For the Prep School, Open Afternoon starts at 2pm, the Year 2 parents are expected at 2.30pm and for Year 1, Reception and the Nursery parents, the start time is 3pm. This will hopefully give everyone the opportunity to walk around the school informally with their children, enjoying the displays and meeting the staff. Parking will be on all spaces available so please look out for signs.
Please complete the proforma (which is being sent as an attachment with this letter) to let us know whether you are coming to Open Afternoon and, if not, who will be collecting, and taking your child home. Hard copies of the proforma will be sent home with the children on Monday.
The Fathers’ Cricket Match begins at 2.00 pm across the road and the 1st IX v Mothers’ Rounders Match at 2.15 pm on the lower field. Thank you to the parents who have organised these teams. The Tennis Tournament will also be taking place (see pro-forma attached). Finally there will be a Dumpton Tea served from 4 pm on the front lawn. Children may depart from 4.15 pm. I should remind everyone that school buses will not be running that evening (as stated in the Programme of Events for the Summer Term).
While we are crossing our fingers for sunshine on Open Afternoon, in the event of wet weather, please still come to the school to look at the children’s displays and, above all, eat the tea – Steph’s cakes must not go to waste! The only change to the plan above will be no cricket, rounders or tennis, then tea at 3.30pm in the Dining Hall/Recital Room and departure from 4pm.
The Reception Pet Show took place this afternoon, with a nervous Headmaster, judging various categories such as behaviour and personality, trying not to upset the children (or the parents)! Meanwhile, Year 2 were enjoying their Environmental Day around the allotments, campsite, woodlands and ponds of Dumpton.
William B (Yr7) will be leading the collection of shoeboxes for the Monkey World primates. Please look out for a list of possible contents in the school bag next week. Just a reminder that each shoebox donated will automatically be entered into a raffle, and the winner will receive a family day pass for Monkey World.

Thank you to all the Nursery and Pre-Prep children who donated foreign currency to raise money for Awake Mercy. A total of 3176 coins and notes were brought into school, representing 84 different currencies old and new. The most common currency was the Euro, followed by the US Dollar. Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Panama, Iceland and The Seychelles all featured. Only W, X and Y were missing from the alphabet. The currencies will now be exchanged for Sterling.
The last bookings will be taken for the Summer Party on Friday 27 May. It is not too late to reserve your table! An email will go out next week to all the revellers regarding arrangements. A charity raffle draw will take place on the night of the Summer Party, the prize is a luxury weekend stay in a 5* apartment in Hampton Court. The tickets are £5 each. Details will be in book bags shortly. Please buy a ticket to raise funds for Julia's House.
Once again the bad weather did not appear until match day, leaving us all frustrated. We made good use of the time nonetheless, with Year 8 and 7 revision sessions for their forthcoming examinations, a Year 6 play rehearsal, Year 5 in the Sports Hall and Years 4 and 3 practising for the House Swimming Gala. The Thursday morning Prep School Assembly celebrated footage from the IAPS National Swimming finals along with the exploits of five Year 7 girls at the U12 National Hockey Finals. Representing Bournemouth HC, Alicia H, Bella H, Rosie I, Karesha OT and Molly T won bronze medals for their efforts. Very well done to all.
Year 2 Swimmers
We now look forward to watching our stars of the future at the Year 2 Swimming Gala next Monday (23 May). Thank you in advance to Mrs Hudson for her energy and enthusiasm for this annual event.
Year 5 will be enjoying a Gospel Workshop led by the acclaimed Ken Burton from 11.15 – 12.45 pm on Thursday (26 May) followed by a short concert at 1.30 pm. We warmly invite our Year 5 parents to this concert. This will be followed by a Year 4 Workshop from 2.30 – 4.00 pm, along with pupils from Hampreston School, followed by a short concert at 4.30 pm. Again, parents of Year 4 are warmly invited to this concert.
The Bursar has asked me to remind all parents currently using the school minibus service that the booking forms for the next academic year should be returned by Friday 27 May 2016. Some buses are already nearing full capacity so a quick response is necessary to maintain your place on the bus. After this date, the application process opens up for new families who wish to use the service.
