Common Entrance Results
Congratulations to all the Year 8 pupils who have worked so hard for their entrance exams to senior school. They have all been successful in winning a place at their chosen school. Excellent news for all! As a result, from this cohort, we will have 3 pupils heading to Ballard, 9 to Bryanston, 15 to Canford, 3 to Clayesmore, 1 to Millfield, 1 to Milton Abbey, 2 to Queen Elizabeth’s and 2 to Talbot Heath. Very well done.
Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits
On Thursday evening, a full house in the Assembly Hall enjoyed a delightful show from the pupils of Year 6, with guest appearances from the French Exchange students. The 40+ actors kept us all entertained with some excellent comic timing and impressive singing, both from individuals and the chorus, supported by Angus W (Yr 7) on the sound and lights desk and our loyal band of peripatetic music teachers Mr Bennett, Mrs Albin and Mrs Bolter. It was an inspired choice of show for a talented cast, and thanks should go to Director Miss Anson, Musical Director Mrs Watkiss, Assistant Director Mr Nye and the very appreciative audience. Very well done to all involved.
Houses of Parliament
Year 7 had a very successful day at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday, getting the chance to ask our local MP Michael Tomlinson for his views on the subject of Remain v Brexit – a huge decision for the next generation. They also enjoyed their tour of the state rooms of this historic building and had a very interesting time in the Education Centre, built specifically for school visits.
Junior and Senior Wessex Athletics
Well done to George G (Yr 4) who triumphed in the 75m at Junior Wessex and also won a bronze medal in the relay, along with Sam W, Jack O and Max M in the relay. Well done also in the high jump to Max on his bronze medal and to Morgan B (Yr 5) on his silver.
Similarly, congratulations to all the senior athletes who have qualified for the IAPS National Finals via the Senior Wessex Meeting on Wednesday. The impressive list includes, in no particular order, Joshua S (800m – new championship record), Daisy B (1st discus), Alicia H (1st 200m), Jessica K (1st shot), Eloise W (1st javelin), Oscar W (2nd high jump) and Esther B (2nd 800m). A total of 7 athletes are now selected to travel to Birmingham in the penultimate week of term – all excellent achievements.
There were also medals for Maddy H (3rd 1500m), William B (3rd hurdles), Ollie P (3rd javelin), Jessica K (3rd discus), the Year 7 relay girls Karesha OT, Charlotte S, Bella H and Alicia H (3rd) and the Year 7 relay boys (Angus W, Joshua S, Joshua P and William B (3rd). Again, all the more impressive when there are 26 schools taking part! Well done also to the following who won their events at the Dorset Schools Championships: Karesha OT (200m), Joshua S (800m) and Joe W (1500m).
Well done to the U11/U10 boys and girls who represented Dumpton at the Canford Gala on Tuesday this week. The boys’ team came first overall and the girls third. Individual race winners included Robbie H and Elisa D. The boys also won both the medley and freestyle relay events.
We had another busy sporting afternoon on Wednesday, with just space to mention an excellent win for the 1st XI cricketers against West Hill Park, notable for a 50 ball hundred from captain Hugo Hand a maiden fifty from Tom H.
We are looking forward to the Year 1 and Year 2 Summer Concerts on Tuesday (21 June) from 2.15 pm, followed by refreshments on the Front Lawn. We are then keeping our fingers crossed for a warm, dry afternoon for the Nursery and Reception Sports Day on Friday (24 June) from 2.15 pm.
Staff and Seniors Summer Serenade – Tuesday 21 June; Sounds of Summer – Friday 24 June
A rare chance to see the Headmaster on stage, supported thankfully by many more able musicians. The Summer Serenade has been a great success over the past years as a showcase for the talents of Mrs Watkiss, Mr Nye and the peripatetic music teachers, but also the less well-known musicians on the staff. Light refreshments will be provided and the evening will run from 6 pm for about an hour. Pupils, parents and staff are all welcome. The Sounds of Summer Concert follows on Friday (24 June) at 4.45 pm. This will feature Year 5 pupils and staff.
Sports Day – Saturday 25 June
Another sunny day will soon be with us, we hope, as 221 pupils in the Prep School compete in three events each on the Prep School Sports Day. Mr Randle is in the process of preparing his biggest spreadsheet of the year accommodating all those taking part. Please do let him know directly if you are unable to attend as this will simplify his task a little.
Summer Party at Compton Acres.
Thank you to all the parents and friends of the school who supported this event – and a huge thank you to the FODs Committee, led by Sarah Schiel, who all worked tirelessly behind the scenes in preparation. It was a delightful evening.
