I would like to start with a big thank you to all the staff, pupils and parents involved in the annual Sports Days this year. We had great fun at the Nursery and Reception Day in the sun last week. Then Mr Randle et al produced another outstanding Prep School Sports Day, with around 200 competitors all taking part in at least three events and everything running perfectly to time. I have just been officiating at the Year 1 and 2 Sports Day this afternoon, and once again the weather held for us and we had a lovely time!
IAPS National Athletics
Good luck now to the athletes heading for Birmingham early next Monday morning. There will be three throwers, Jessica K (shot), Daisy B (discus) and Eloise W (javelin), one jumper Oscar W (high jump) and three runners, Joshua S (800m), Alicia H (200m) and Esther B (800m). Fingers crossed for them all.
EYFS Summer Concert
Thank you also to all the children in Nursery and Reception who put on a lovely show for us on Tuesday morning. Well done to Mrs Bowerman for marshalling the troops.
All pupils in the Prep School will be taking part in the House Swimming Gala on Wednesday afternoon. Just a reminder that kit bags can go home on Tuesday evening but that pupils will all need their swimming costumes and towels for one more day. Unfortunately, with 200+ children and 20+ staff in the swimming enclosure, there will not be room for spectators on Wednesday.
Dance Extravaganza on Thursday 7 July
This will take place outside by the marquee from 4 pm and will involve most of the pupils in the Pre-Prep and Prep School. All parents are welcome of course. Claire Camble-Hutchins would like to make a plea for all boys to wear their black t-shirts and the girls their leotards for the last few rehearsals – and most importantly for the final show!
Macmillan UK: Message from the Pre-Prep Staff
Over recent months one of our colleagues has been absent from school, showing great strength and courage in the face of serious illness. To support her we, as a staff, have been involved in fundraising for Macmillan UK, so far raising over £1000. We would like to double this total by dancing for the pupils and parents in a ‘one off’ performance, possibly never to be repeated! Charity buckets will be strategically placed around the performing area during the Dance Extravaganza should you wish to support us. Thank you in advance.
FODS End of Year Picnic on Thursday 7 July
This will start as soon as the dancing has finished and continue until 8.00 pm. Please bring your own picnic and drinks. However, there will be hot food to buy from Dorset Larder, Amelia’s Ices and Kai’s Candies. There will also be disco music in the marquee, cake decorating, balloon modelling and free laser quest. Can we stress again that children should be accompanied by their parents at this event, as it is very much a family affair.
Speech Day on Friday 8 July
I hope to see you all on Speech Day, which starts promptly at 10 am on Friday 8 July. Following the proceedings FODS will be offering Pimms and juice. I will certainly aim to say farewell and good luck to each leaver. If I do miss you on this busiest of days, can I take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes for a long, hot summer wherever you are, and I look forward to seeing you back here in September with your children suitably rested.
New Form Lists
The new form lists will be published in the Prep School early next week. Later in the week pupils will go to their new Form Teacher to spend an hour or so in next year’s form room. We hope this will make the first day back at school next term less uncertain and allow any essential communication between parents and Form Teacher before the start of term. Teachers will then pick up e-mails addressed to them (eg firstname.lastname@example.org) when they return in September.
On Wednesday 6 July from 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm there will be the Big Summer Sale. If you have any bags of second hand uniform please give them in as soon as possible, so that we can include them in the sale. The shop will be closed for sorting on Tuesday.
And finally …
We start again in earnest at 8.30 am on Wednesday 7 September. As usual, please do park up as directed on the first day and head for your son or daughter’s new form/classroom to meet their Form or Class Teacher.
With best wishes for an enjoyable summer.
