23 September 2016
I hope you are all set for an enjoyable weekend. I am dictating this from my tent, camping in the Purbecks, some distance from the nearest electricity and washing facilities. The thirty nine Year 5’s have been, rock-climbing and coasteering near Dancing Ledge today, and will be paddle-boarding and raft-building tomorrow off the beach – they may need to catch up on their sleep Saturday evening on our return …
Children in Need – Thursday 17 November 2016
Advanced Warning! Once again Dumpton parent Sam Dean will be overseeing the Recycled Toys Stall, always so popular in previous years. All she asks is that you put any toys to one side at this stage, in preparation, and we will give you a date soon when deliveries to the Front Hall can begin. We are not quite ready yet …
Future Schools Presentation
Next week, on Thursday evening (29 September) I will be inviting all current parents to a talk about the many possibilities of schooling post-Dumpton. A glass of wine or similar will be available from 7.30 pm, and we would be grateful if likely attendees could confirm by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or telephone (01202-883818) so that we can cater accordingly. Thank you.
The Pre-Prep and Prep School will celebrate Harvest Festival, with the Assembly on Tuesday 4 October led by Year 2, as is our tradition. Harvest gifts will be collected for the Wimborne Food Bank. We are inviting each pupil in the Pre-Prep and Prep School to bring no more than one can of food or similar into school from Monday next week.
The suggestions for donations on the website include pasta sauce, tinned meat, tinned tomatoes, soup, tinned or instant potatoes, tinned macaroni/spaghetti, tinned custard, tinned rice pudding and toiletries. Any gift will be gratefully received, of course, and will be collected by the class or form teacher over the coming week.
Thank you, in advance, for your contributions. Reverend Robert Jones, who oversees the project, will be speaking to the Prep School pupils on Tuesday 27 September. This is an important local charity touching the lives of many. In 2016 they have already fed 594 people including 245 children (more than throughout the whole of 2015).
Forthcoming Musical Attractions
The Senior SATIPS Day at Bryanston (Tuesday 4 October) will soon be upon us and Mrs Watkiss will be writing to invitees under separate cover. The next Informal Concert at school will be at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 18 October.
Many congratulations to the Dumpton Mixed Ski Team, who came first in the English Schools Ski Association Regional Competition. Niamh T, George W, Tom W and Olivia S topped the list against a whole host of mixed teams from other schools, including U16 and U19 teams.
News from the sportsfield
Once again Mr Randle has worked hard to get as many pupils as possible on the sportsfield this week, with nearly 200 selected to represent the school in 22 different teams – including another ambitious eight school U9 Girls Hockey Festival at home. Congratulations to all the footballers who attended the Moyles Court Tournament, including the 1st VI who beat Port Regis in the final to bring home the cup, and to the U11 side who were narrowly beaten in their final. Well done also to the 1st VII girls hockey who continued on their winning ways with a 4-1 win at FSM, and to the U11 girls who came 3rd in a very competitive Sherborne Tournament.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
This year FODS, along with many others around the country, are hosting a coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Please join us from 8.30 am on Friday 30 September for coffee and croissants (and there will be cakes to purchase) in the Front Hall in support of this very worthwhile charity. Committee members will be on hand for anyone who would like to know more about the role of FODS within the school. If you are interested in joining the committee please come along for a chat. All cake donations gratefully received and these should be brought along on the morning.
FODS Quiz Night
The FODs Quiz Night is nearly upon us (Saturday 15 October). Do come along and enjoy the fun, pitting your wits against a carefully selected staff team. The theme this year is ‘Friends’, as in the TV show, although this will only constitute one of the ten rounds….. a flyer will be coming home to you, a copy is also attached to this letter.
With best wishes
PS Please can keen gardeners bring in wellies from home or a spare pair of trainers for working on the allotments to prevent school shoes being ruined, especially as the weather gets more autumnal. Many thanks.
