I would like to start with a big thank you to all the staff, pupils and parents involved in the annual Sports Days this year. We had great fun at the Nursery and Reception Day in the sun last week. Then Mr Randle et al produced another outstanding Prep School Sports Day, with 200+ competitors all taking part in at least three events and everything running perfectly to time. House Swimming in the Prep School was similarly competitive last week, with all pupils involved in at least two events, and house cheering reaching ever new levels. I have just been officiating at the Year 1 and 2 Sports Day this afternoon, and once again the weather held for us and we had a lovely time!
Pirates of the Curry Bean and EYFS Summer Concert
Many congratulations to the cast, musicians and director (Miss Anson) of our latest Year 6 production. ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’ was the perfect vehicle for the talents of this year group. The jokes came thick and fast and had the audience laughing for a full hour and a quarter. It was a wonderful way to end the week. Thank you also to all the children in Nursery and Reception who put on a lovely show for us on Monday morning. Well done Mrs Bowerman for marshalling the troops.
Samba, cricket, rounders, snorkelling, archery, golf, music examinations …
I have been extremely impressed with the energy of both the pupils and the staff over the past weeks. Well done to Year 4 and 5 for their entertaining ‘Samba Concerts’ yesterday. A special mention also to the 1st XI cricketers who have won 6 and drawn 1 of their 8 matches this term against some very tough opposition. Next week Year 7 will be enjoying a snorkelling, archery and golf activity day, Years 1 and 2 will be spending the day at Sandbanks, the Year 8 pupils will be having their Leavers’ Supper, 46 pupils will be taking part in the Associated Board Music Examinations and we will be fielding 15 cricket and rounders teams against Castle Court on Wednesday.
IAPS National Athletics – National Champion!
Well done to Jessica K, Will B, Joe W and Charlie C who competed at the IAPS National Athletics Championships on Wednesday and many congratulations to Martha T who won a gold medal in the javelin with her final throw and is now IAPS National Champion!
Dance Extravaganza on Thursday 2 July
This will take place outside by the marquee from 4 pm and will involve most of the pupils in the Pre-Prep and Prep School. All parents are welcome of course. Claire Camble Hutchins would like to make a plea for all boys to wear their black t-shirts and the girls their leotards for the last few rehearsals – and most importantly for the final show! This will run into the ….
FODS End of Year Picnic on Thursday 2 July
This will start as soon as the dancing has finished and continue until 8.00 pm. Please bring your own picnic and drinks. However, there will be hot food to buy from Dorset Larder, Crepes and Candyfloss from Kai’s Candies and Fat Sam’s Ice Cream Van. There will also be disco music in the marquee, cake decorating, balloon modelling and free laser quest. Can we stress again that children should be accompanied by their parents at this event, as it is very much a family affair.
Speech Day on Friday 3 July
I hope to see you all on Speech Day, which starts promptly at 10 am on Friday 3 July. Following the proceedings FODS will be offering Pimms and juice. I will certainly aim to say farewell and good luck to each leaver. If I do miss you on this busiest of days, can I take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes for a long, hot summer wherever you are, and I look forward to seeing you back here in September with your children suitably rested.
New Form Lists
The new form lists will be published in the Prep School early next week. Later in the week pupils will go to their new Form Teacher to spend an hour or so in next year’s form room. We hope this will make the first day back at school next term less uncertain and allow any essential communication between parents and Form Teacher before the start of term. Teachers will then pick up e-mails addressed to them (eg email@example.com) when they return in September.
On Wednesday 8 July from 10 – 12 noon there will be the Big Summer Sale. If you have any bags of second hand uniform please give them in as soon as possible, so that we can include them in the sale. The shop will be closed for sorting next week and any bags given in after the sale will not be processed until the start of next term.
And finally …
We start again in earnest at 8.30 am on Thursday 3 September. As usual, please do park up as directed on the first day and head for your son or daughter’s new form/classroom to meet their Form or Class Teacher.
With best wishes for an enjoyable summer.
PS We are hoping that Pilates and Zumba will start again next term – we are just finalising the best time slots.
