20 January 2017
Thank you for your swift response to the Parents’ Evenings appointments system. Mrs Sharp has given me an array of statistics regarding 70% parental uptake and 1439 appointments booked to date. Almost everything seems to be in place for the first evening next week on Tuesday 24 January for Year 3 parents. If you would like any further information please do contact Mrs Sharp at firstname.lastname@example.org
Year 6 Bryanston Mathematics Challenge
Congratulations to Charlotte K and Lauren F who won their section of the Bryanston Maths Challenge on Thursday, coming 1st/ 26 teams with a very impressive overall points total. Well done also to Anthony L and Morgan B who finished 9th/26 in the other half of the draw.
We had a delightful Music Assembly this morning, with pupils offering music as part of their scholarship applications performing their pieces in front of the whole Prep School. Thank you also to all parents who supported the Informal Lunchtime Concert today. It was a lovely occasion, with pupils queueing up to take part, as usual. Well done to all the performers, and thank you to all the peripatetic music teachers who supported their charges.
Well done to all the teams who participated on the first sporting Wednesday of term. They were rewarded with some very encouraging performances, and particular mention should go to the 1st VII netball team, who came an impressive 3rd=/24 at the prestigious Bryanston tournament.
Senior School Scholarships
As the scholarship season approaches, it seems a fitting time to announce that Tim J has already been awarded a Sport Scholarship to Millfield School, from September 2017. Many congratulations to him, and good luck to all the Year 8’s currently preparing for their assessment days this term.
Prep School Sports Day 2017
Planning ahead, this year’s Prep School Sports Day will be on Wednesday 21st June, a change from the Saturdays of the past. It will run, after an early lunch, from 1.00 pm – 5.30 pm, and we will keep Wednesday 5th July as a reserve date in case of inclement weather.
Dorset Schools Cross Country Championships
Well done to all the pupils who braved some icy conditions at King’s Park, Bournemouth for the Dorset Schools Cross Country Championships. There were some impressive performances against the best runners in the county, with Josh S (2nd), Henry S (4th) Esther B (14th) and Joe W (15th) all excelling in fields of well over 100 runners.
Parents’ ‘Reading Plus’ Seminar
I was particularly taken by the Parents’ Seminar this week on Reading Plus – the new initiative that is making such a difference to the children through the school. The English Department spoke with great enthusiasm about this new venture, and I was very grateful to the parents who supported and participated in the talk. We will run the seminar again next year, but in the meantime, please do contact your child’s English teacher to learn more.
Independent Schools Indoor Ski Championships at Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre
We are hoping to enter a school team into this event which takes place on Monday 24 April. Children will need to be experienced enough to race down the whole slope and use the button lift. Would any parents of interested children please contact parent Nicole Thompson at email@example.com for more details.
