Dumpton Debating Team
A Year7/8 Debating contingent attended a schools’ competition at Milton Abbey on Tuesday afternoon. Both teams won their debates, so congratulations to Alicia H, Annie D, Leo B, James B, Mackenzie F and Annabel K. In addition, Mackenzie F was named the Best Individual Debater – high praise indeed! Motions included ‘This House believes that Instagram should be illegal for under 16s’ – an interesting discussion for our e-Safety Week….
A big thank you to all the parents who attended our FoDS advertised e-Safety talk from Gooseberry Planet earlier in the week. Stella James gave an eye-opening, but ultimately reassuring talk on the pitfalls of young people and the internet and left us all better equipped for the challenges ahead. We will be introducing the Gooseberry Planet platform here at Dumpton over the coming months via curriculum Computing lessons. Do please contact Head of ICT, Gary Ashworth (firstname.lastname@example.org), if you would like more information.
House of Maths
On Thursday this week we enjoyed a visit from local Maths Wizard Barnaby Maunder Taylor. Years 3 to 6 participated in a series of workshops throughout the morning. He then presented a show to the Pre-Prep in the afternoon. We hope the children returned home full of interesting mathematical ideas.
Science at Bryanston
A group of Year 7 science students spent an afternoon at Bryanston on Tuesday, where they enjoyed an array of activities including fire-writing, pin-hole cameras and explosive flame tests. They also had a brilliant lecture about the reintroduction of wolves into the British Isles and worked out who stole the monkey in CSI Biology!
News from the Pre-Prep
The Year 1 and 2 Parents’ Evening takes place on Thursday (9 February). We also have a Nursery Parents’ Coffee Morning the next day on Friday 10 February. This also seems a good time to advertise our FODs Easter Egg Hunt which will include hot cross buns and coffee for all the Nursery parents on the last day of term (Friday 24 March). Please put the date in your diary.
Well done, once again to Mrs Gray, the netball coaches and the senior girls on another excellent Senior (2nd/3rd VII) Tournament on Wednesday. Eighteen sides battled it out on a cold, windy afternoon. We entered a ‘Blue’ team and a ‘Yellow’ team who both played some great netball. Congratulations to the former on winning the tournament! Very well done to all. Congratulations again to the senior boys’ hockey teams on some outstanding results against Durlston Court on Wednesday, including a 2-0 win for the 1st VII and some convincing wins for the other sides. There were also encouraging results right through the school, down to the U8 boys who had great fun on the astro!
South of England Cross Country
Henry S (Year 8) travelled to Parliament Hill on Saturday to take part in the South of England Cross Country Championships. He came a very impressive 9th out of 312 having been 4th coming down the last hill until he started slipping! Very well done.
IAPS Swimmers at Clayesmore
We are setting off with a big squad of 34 swimmers to the IAPS time trials at Clayesmore School next Tuesday (7 February) with all participants aiming for a place in the IAPS National Championships in the summer term. Good luck to them all.
House Cross Country
We are bracing ourselves for one of the most keenly fought house competitions of the year next week. Everyone will run cross-country during games time on the Friday. The Dumpton Cross Country Course is currently not as muddy as it has been in the past, but older trainers might still be the order of the day rather than shiny new ones…
FoDS Easter Lunch: Message from the Chair
After the success of the lunch at Limewood last year we will be hosting another FoDS event on Friday 10 March from 12.00 noon at 10 Castle Street, Cranborne. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy some good food and company in a lovely setting. Price £18.50 for a two course meal. If you would like to come please email email@example.com.
