3 March 2017
A big thank you to Flora H (Yr8) and JJ H (Yr7) who brought in five orphan lambs to school yesterday. They supervised feeding both at morning and lunch break and then gave an interesting talk about their life on the farm to a group of Year 4 pupils from Hampreston School in the afternoon. Thank you also to Mrs H for supporting this annual venture.
World Book Day (and Week)
The Book Fair has been extremely busy this week - always a positive in a school! We also had an inspiring Prep School Assembly today from award winning and bestselling author Lauren St John, a fitting end to our celebrations. Every year on World Book Day, all children of school age are issued with a free £1 book token and your child should have been given this by their English Teachers over the last couple of days. The token is redeemable in all participating bookshops and there are 10 fantastic titles to choose from. Please see the website: www.worldbookday.com for more details. Thank you for the wonderful costumes produced yesterday – I am sorry that I was ‘The Demon Headmaster’ again…
We are delighted to announce the following awards to Talbot Heath: Jasmine D and Lauren F both won All-Rounder Scholarships, Clara D an Academic Scholarship and Heidi T and Karesha O Sports Scholarships. Similarly, congratulations to Will T who has won a Sport Scholarship to Clayesmore. This brings our running total so far this year to 15, with much news still to come. Very well done to all.
Bryanston Science Essay Competition
There were over 70 entries this year from a range of local prep schools, with essays written around the theme ‘drugs in sport’. I am delighted to report on some excellent results for the Year 7 Dumpton pupils this year: Esther B was the overall competition winner, Niamh T topped the Chemistry section and Thomas N was the runner-up in the Physics section. In addition, Elliot H, Evelyn K, Ruby A, Sofia C, Alex S, Bella S and Georgina E all received commendations. Many congratulations to all.
News from the Pre-Prep
Reception thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Moors Valley Country Park in the sunshine on Thursday. This afternoon they have had lots of fun dressing up in their pyjamas and reading their favourite bedtime story together with a Year 2 pupil, whilst enjoying hot chocolate.
Congratulations to the U12 boys’ hockey side who won the annual King’s School, Bruton tournament playing some superb hockey, including wins against Port Regis, Hazlegrove and Queen’s Taunton. Well done also to the U10 side who made the same long journey to Bruton, coming worthy runners-up in their six school competition. There were many exciting games both home and away, so well done to all the pupils involved.
IAPS Netball and Hockey
Well done to the U11 netballers who played at the Regional IAPS Tournament at Port Regis yesterday. They had a positive day, coming second in their group, and fifth overall, narrowly missing out on qualification for the IAPS Nationals. We now await news from the U12 and U13 netball sides which are doing battle at Port Regis as I write – along with the U11 boys who have travelled even further to their IAPS regional hockey competition at Clifton College. Good luck also to the U12 and U13 netball sides playing in the County Championships at Bournemouth School for Girls tomorrow.
Cross Country at Bryanston
Similarly, Mr Loe reported that his cross country runners did him proud yesterday. Running a tough relay course over hilly and muddy terrain Josh S recorded the fastest time of the day, joining up with Joe W (4th) and Dominic H (9th) to win the team race by some way. A big thank you to all those Year 7 and Year 8 boys who ran for the school.
Year 7 Parents’ Evening
We have the penultimate in our series of Parents’ Meetings on Tuesday 7 March from 5 pm. Thank you to Year 5 parents for your positive comments last Tuesday, and thank you to Mrs Sharp for her careful organisation of all six evenings this term, with around 2000+ appointments booked.
