I hope both you and your children have all settled into the new term, particularly if you are new to the school. I will try to catch you all at the gate over the coming weeks to allow you to feedback as necessary.
Although my ‘Future Schools Presentation’ at 7.30 pm on Thursday 1 October is some way off, it would be useful to receive an update of parental intentions. Thus, I would be very grateful if you would let me know if there has been any change of plan or if you now have clearer views on the likely school of choice for your children. Please be reassured that anything you write will not be binding. However, this is particularly important for those in Years 6, 7 and 8 as we set out to tailor preparations for each individual. Later in the term there will be a ‘Senior Schools Exhibition’ from 3.45 pm on Friday 16 October. This will give parents and pupils a chance to speak directly to representatives from ten or so local schools.
Preparation lessons for the Bournemouth and Poole Grammar Schools continue this term in prep time. As I am sure you are already aware the deadlines for applications for the forthcoming September tests are now upon us. Additional information is available on each individual school’s website. The deadline for subsequent applications to local state senior schools (Sept 2015 entry) is 31 October 2015. I should stress once again that these applications are the responsibility of the parents not the school.
The sporting term got off to a flying start with all 217 pupils in the prep school selected to represent Dumpton in the first full week of term. This included hosting an U10 hockey festival for 18 teams of girls, along with a further 22 fixtures against a range of other schools. A big thank you to all the parents for their support, and to all the staff for managing the logistics. Wednesdays will be as busy as ever in the coming weeks, so to help you plan ahead we will aim to put team sheets on the website by Monday evening at the latest. However, please check the website on match days for any last minute changes.
Jeans for Genes
There will be a voluntary Jeans for Genes Mufti Day next Friday (18 September) with a £1 donation, as usual. This will extend to children throughout the Prep School, Pre-Prep and Nursery. Thank you, in advance, for your support.
FODs Quiz Night
Next week we will be sending out an official Quiz Night flyer containing full details of this school wide fun event, but in the meantime please do remember to save the date – Saturday 17 October.
Next week …
… we also have a visit for Year 1 to the Wimborne Model Town on Tuesday (15 September). On Thursday 17 September we will have Fraser Portraits in School to take individual and sibling photographs. Please send your children to school in their best uniform if this is your preferred uniform for the shot. There is a Reception Coffee Morning from 10.30 am on Friday (18 September) and 3E will be attending the Rockley Watersports Centre at Poole Park on Friday afternoon.
We hope that the Friends of Dumpton Stroll might involve the sort of balmy summer afternoon that we have become so used to. The FODs Committee are expecting over 110 walkers (and dogs)! Thank you in advance for all of the preparations that have gone into this. We look forward to seeing many of you in the Parents’ Car Park at 2.30 pm on Sunday 13 September– the more the merrier…..
And finally …. ‘The Week’
I am sure many of you read ‘The Week’ magazine, a weekly summary of national and world news. In addition, they publish an annual independent education supplement with a ‘Best of the Best’ feature. This is compiled after talking to and consulting a wide range of parents, teachers and education experts about independent schools. They also, we are told, look at results, tables, scholarships achieved, sport and extracurricular activities. We were absolutely delighted to be one of three day schools with special mention this year, nationally, in the Prep Schools section.
With best wishes,
