FODs Autumn Stroll
Could I start with a really big thank you to Liz Fowley, Elana Visser, Hon Leung, Caroline Kersey, Hayley Piercy, Mel Haskell and
the whole FODs Committee for doing so much to prepare for the FODS Stroll. The weather was near perfect, the company was
excellent and the tea was delicious. Well done to the 100 or so who made it such a successful event.
Macmillan Coffee Morning – Message from the Chair
This year FODS, along with many others around the country, are hosting a coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer
Support. Please join us from 8.30 am on Friday 25 September for coffee and cake, in the Front Hall in support of this very
worthwhile charity. Committee members will be on hand for anyone who would like to know more about the role of FODS within
the school. If you are interested in joining the committee please come along for a chat. The next event is the FODS Quiz Night,
which takes place on Saturday 17 October. If you would like to come along and join the fun, please return the booking form
(attached) to the FODS box next week. We have also sent home hard copies of this form with the children today.
Philosophy for Children
We were delighted to welcome Jason Buckley to Dumpton on Monday. He is a well-known author and speaker on thinking skills
and philosophy for children. He set out to challenge every pupil in the Prep School, both at assembly or in smaller groups, to
develop their critical thinking skills. This was followed up very successfully on Tuesday’s assembly by Charlotte Sharp, our
Director of Studies, and will be developed further in PSHE and RS lessons in the coming weeks.
The Pre-Prep and Prep School will celebrate Harvest Festival, with the Assembly on Tuesday 29 September led by Year 2, as is our
tradition. Harvest gifts will be collected for the Wimborne Food Bank, a relatively new project based just off Leigh Road. We are
inviting each pupil in the Pre-Prep and Prep School to bring no more than one can of food or similar into school from Monday next
The suggestions for donations on the website include tetrapak fruit juice (made from concentrate), squash, tinned macaroni, tinned
spaghetti, porridge oats, tinned fruit, tinned custard, powdered potato, packets of rice, washing powder and washing up liquid. Any
gift will be gratefully received, of course, and will be collected by the class or form teacher from Monday morning. Thank you, in
advance, for your contributions. These will be boxed up and presented to Reverend Robert Jones, who oversees the project, on
Monday 28 September. This is an important local charity touching the lives of many. In 2014 they have fed 652 people (including
Thank you for your positive response to the request for future schools information. Can I now draw your attention to the Future
Schools Presentation on Thursday 1 October, where I will be attempting to unravel the mysteries of Year 6 and Year 8 transfers to
senior schools in the local area. I will ask for likely numbers next week.
Amid the inevitable cancellations, I wanted to pass on my thanks to the pupils, staff and parents who braved such dreadful conditions
to allow many of the Wednesday fixtures to run roughly to plan. There were some excellent performances in the rain, including
encouraging results at the Canford tournament for the 1st VII girls. Fingers crossed for a sunny afternoon next week ...
Parents’ Curriculum Seminar (Literacy – Years 3-5) – 5 p.m. Tuesday 22 September
Miss Anson, Head of English will lead a discussion on our approaches to Literacy teaching at Dumpton in the Assembly Hall from

the Prep School.
Early Years Foundation Stage Parents’ Evening – 7.30 pm Wednesday 23 September
We are looking forward to welcoming many of you to this popular evening next week. The Early Years team will be on hand to

any further questions with Miss Monaghan, Mrs Morton and Mrs Goodwin as the weeks proceed.
Parents’ Fitness Classes
We now have two classes running here at Dumpton. Firstly, the Pilates Class with Lucy Purrier (Chartered Physiotherapist and
Certified Pilates Instructor) especially for those with back problems, in the Dumpton Sports Hall on Mondays at 4.30-5.30pm. Please
email email@example.com to book. Secondly we have a Zumba Class with Caroline McKenzie (Licenced Zumba Instructor) in the
Dumpton Sports Hall on Thursdays at 8.20-9.05am as advertised on posters in the parents’ area. Please email
firstname.lastname@example.org to register an interest.
We have recently completed a Dumpton Development brochure, which reflects on recent projects in the school, outlines current
developments and discusses future plans. We hope you will find it somewhere in the depths of the school bag – if not it will also
appear on the website soon.
