I hope you are all set for an enjoyable weekend. I am dictating this from my tent, wild-camping on the Purbeck coast, some distance from the nearest electricity and washing facilities. The Year 5’s are enjoying themselves too, rock-climbing, paddleboarding, coasteering and raft-building, but may need to catch up on their sleep Saturday evening on our return. Looking ahead to next week, I will be away from school from Monday morning through to Wednesday evening at the National IAPS Heads’ Conference, leaving Mr Nye holding the fort - although I will be online in case of emergency.
A series of Tutor Group Meetings start next week for all parents in the Prep School and a series of Pre-Prep Open Afternoons soon follow. The idea here is to give all parents the chance to touch base with their son or daughter’s Form Tutor or Class Teacher early on in the academic year, review the work completed thus far and receive feedback about progress. All meetings take place at the end of the school day, are very informal, and no appointments are necessary. We begin with Year 6 next Tuesday (29 September) at 6.00 pm. Parents should pick up their children first and move to the Dining Hall as directed. Further dates are listed in the Programme of Events, available on the Parents’ Area of the school website. Formal Parents’ Meetings then take place in the Spring Term.
Children in Need – Thursday 12 November 2015
Advanced Warning! Once again Dumpton parent Sam Dean will be overseeing the Recycled Toys Stall, always so popular in previous years. All she asks is that you put any toys to one side at this stage, in preparation, and we will give you a date soon when deliveries to the Front Hall can begin. We are not quite ready yet …
Future Schools Presentation
Later in the week on Thursday evening (1 October) I will be inviting all current parents to a talk about the many possibilities of schooling post-Dumpton. A glass of wine or similar will be available from 7.30 pm, and we would be grateful if likely attendees could confirm by email (email@example.com) or telephone (01202-883818) so that we can cater accordingly.
Prep School Assemblies
Year 2 are busy preparing for their Harvest Assembly for the Prep School next Tuesday. Thank you for the many cans that are appearing - a representative from the Wimborne Food Bank will attend a Prep School Assembly next week to thank the pupils (and parents) for their generosity in support of local families in need. Today we celebrated the European Day of Languages with a presentation from children focusing on the many languages and cultures experienced by the children at Dumpton.
Forthcoming Musical Attractions
The Senior SATIPS Day at Bryanston (Tuesday 6 October) will soon be upon us and Mrs Watkiss will be writing to invitees under separate cover. The next Informal Concert at school will be at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 20 October.
News from the sportsfield
I noticed six minibuses in our car park on Wednesday, each from a different visiting Prep School. Once again Mr Randle has worked hard to get as many pupils as possible on the sportsfield this week, with over 200 selected to represent the school in 22 different teams. There were many exciting matches, with the U11 girls returning with the silver medals from the Port Regis Hockey Tournament, the 1st VII girls winning well at Forres Sandle Manor and the 1st XI boys losing narrowly at Port Regis.
Checking in and out with Matron and bus changes
Please could we remind parents that when children leave school early for any reason, they must check out with Matron before they go. Similarly, if a pupil comes into school late, they should first check in with Matron before joining their class. If your child will not be travelling home on the bus please inform Matron as soon as possible (firstname.lastname@example.org or 01202 843947).
Jeans for Genes
Thank you for your support for Jeans for Genes. It was good to see the pupils and staff entering into the spirit of the day; we collected just over £277.38 for the charity.
The second hand uniform shop is literally bulging at the seams. So please no more bags at present until we have sold some of the existing stock. Just a reminder that the shop is open every Tuesday from 3.30 until 5.45 pm.
Fifteen parents have already found this link on our website (it was only there for testing!) and have signed their children up for this exciting new venture. Mr Ashworth and invited staff will oversee a Christmas Club in the holiday week running up to Christmas – including a guest appearance from Steph who will oversee the children preparing their own Christmas Dinner on the last day.
PS There are tickets still available for the FODs Quiz Night on Saturday 17 October - do come along and enjoy the fun.
