FODs Quiz Night
Thank you in advance for supporting the FODs Quiz Night tomorrow – we are expecting 12 teams and the usual friendly competition. Thank you also to all those on the FODs Committee, and to all those who have stepped forward for the coming year. Results will follow after half-term …
Christmas Party - Friday 4 December
Ticket sales for this event at the Branksome Beach Restaurant have been excellent and we now have only one table remaining. If you would like to join us please drop your booking form into the Front Office and contact Sarah Schiel firstname.lastname@example.org
Children in Need
Thank you for your continuing contributions to the annual Second Hand Toy Sale. Boxes and bags are still arriving daily, ready for a big stall on Thursday 12 November. We are grateful once again to Sam Dean for all her hard work in organising, pricing and supervising on the day. Do please keep the toys coming!
Prep School Hobbies
We will be starting new hobbies after half-term, and the new choices will soon be available for selection on the Parents' Area of the website. A range of indoor options are already planned, such as Funtime Science, Calligraphy, Christmas Cookery, Microelectronics, Jazz Dance, Drama and Film Making but there will also be the option of some swimming or outdoor sport for the more hardy amongst us.
There was another busy afternoon of football and hockey on Wednesday with lots of competitive matches through the school. Before the boys switch to rugby, I would just like to say well done to the U10B football team who have won all of their games this season, conceding only one goal! Well done also to the U11A and B sides who met in the semi-finals of the Moyles Court Tournament. The A team won, just, before losing narrowly in the final on penalties. Good luck to the U11 girls’ hockey team who head to King’s, Bruton for the IAPS Regionals today.
Skiing and swimming stars
Congratulations to Niamh T on her list of skiing accolades this year, including winning the U12 Irish Open last week, and coming runner-up in the U12 European Championships (and first in her year of birth). I presented a whole host of other medals and trophies to her in assembly on Thursday. Well done also to Jessica K who received a certificate from the Mayor of Poole, at a recent ceremony, to celebrate her achievements in Open Water Swimming, most notably the 1500m, where she ranks in the top ten nationally.
British Ski Academy Competition
Following on from the success of the Dumpton dry slope team, we are assessing the feasibility of entering a schools team into the British Ski Academy Interschool Race in Chamonix in March 2016. Would any interested parents of children born in 2006 and up, please contact parent Nicole Thompson.
We look forward to an Informal Music Concert on Tuesday 20 October at 1.30 pm, with an exciting running order already developing. On the same day, Year 1 will be making their annual pilgrimage to Wimborne Minster.
Operation Christmas Child – Shoebox Appeal
We all left the prep school assembly on Monday morning filled with enthusiasm to help needy children around the world. Please do search the school bags, as leaflets have been distributed to children today! For your convenience, we have secured a limited number of pre-decorated boxes ready to fill with gifts. If you would like one of these, please do call in to the office. Filled boxes will be collected soon after the half term break.
We have just three school days next week, with half-term starting at on Wednesday at 3.30 pm in the Pre-Prep (or at the end of After School Club) and after sports fixtures in the Prep School. The slightly longer break, now popular in many schools during the long Autumn Term, is then balanced by two extra days taught elsewhere in the academic year. We will reflect on the success of this before announcing next year’s term dates at the end of term.
And finally …
Apologies for sending you last week’s letter more than once due to a technical glitch. We will endeavour to make sure that there is no repeat this evening …
