The weather forecast for Open Day tomorrow looks hopeful, so we are still planning that tea will be on the Front Lawn from 4.00 pm and all other activities should run as planned. In the (currently unlikely) event of inclement weather we will retire to the Dining Room for tea. We hope you enjoy the afternoon.
Displays and classrooms will be manned where possible in both the Pre-Prep and the Prep School. Do take a stroll through the allotments and woodlands to see the Forest School, a short walk from the ponds and campsite, where you will find Mr Pettefer warming himself by the fire. Throughout the afternoon, Mr Loe will be directing artists upstairs in his garret, and the scientists will be hosting an interactive display looking at both Outer and Inner Space, the latter not for the squeamish. Meanwhile, Radio Dumpton will be broadcasting live from the ICT suite courtesy of Mr Allen, and Mr Ashworth will also be showing new and exciting developments in school computing. Mr Price has overseen the construction of a Medieval Castle in his classroom. Definitely worth a visit! Mrs Brown will be in the Food Technology Department, while the Pre-Prep, Year 3, Learning Support, English and French areas will also be manned by teachers.
Fathers and Sons cricket will be over the road as usual and the Mothers and Daughters Rounders in the lower field. The Tennis Tournament will proceed from 2.00 pm. The swimming pool will be in operation later in the afternoon (from 2.45 pm) with Mr Jeremiah. The musical entertainment will begin in the Assembly Hall at 2.00 pm with the Saxonets featuring later on at tea.
We would like the children to look as smart as possible tomorrow, so would ask that they wear best uniform in the Prep School (long trousers and ties for boys, blazers for all).
I have been delighted by the positive response from pupils (and parents) to the taming of the allotments this year. I am asked daily if there is any more space for planting, and Mr Garforth and I regularly find ourselves managing up to 40 pupils at lunchtime, all with their own interesting horticultural views and questions. The allotmenteers have worked very hard, and look forward to showing their own garden designs to parents on Open Afternoon, including a pupil-sourced polytunnel. A big thank you also to the ‘Cock a Doodle Crew’, who have been busy tending the chickens every day.
Year 2 Swimming Gala
A big thank you to Katie Hudson, and the Year 2 staff for organising such an enjoyable swimming gala on Monday afternoon. The children did us proud, and were very grateful for the support of so many parents poolside.
There were some excellent results this week, with rounders, tennis and both boys and girls cricket featuring. The 1st XI boys successfully chased 111 at Sherborne Prep thanks in part to a stand of 62 from Hugo H and Charlie B, and the 1st XI girls enjoyed a cricket festival with the girls from the same school. Well done also to James B and William T who scored half-centuries for the Colts XI. Congratulations to Hants who won the House Tennis Cup this week by just one point from Kent.
Well done to the pupils who have achieved gold, silver and bronze awards in the recent Junior Mathematics Challenge. Particular mention should go to Charlotte B who was top of Year 8 and ‘best in school’, along with Max A and Martha T who both achieved gold awards. In addition Freddie H also reached gold standard and was best in Year 7 and congratulations to Molly T who was top of Year 6.
Further to the proofs that should have arrived at home in the pupils school bags earlier in the week, Form photographs will be on display in the Front Hall from lunchtime tomorrow. Please do feel free to come by and peruse them at your leisure.

Mr Randle has asked me to remind you that we have many matches on the Wednesday and Saturday following the break and the teams will be on the website as usual. He has also e-mailed all Prep School parents this week asking for pupils to select their events for Sports Day on Saturday 20 June.
