Make every day your masterpiece …
… one of the many positive messages shared by AFC Bournemouth Assistant Manager (and Dumpton parent) Jason Tindall at two assemblies this week in the Pre-Prep and Prep School. Mr Tindall found time in his very busy schedule to bring the prestigious Championship Trophy into Dumpton on both Tuesday and Thursday, and inspired the children with his talk of the importance of teamwork and self-belief. It has been an amazing six year journey from the bottom of League 2 to the Premiership next season. Many thanks to Jason for sharing the story with us - and many congratulations to everyone at the club.
This week’s letter will concentrate mainly on the Open Afternoon scheduled for next Friday (22 May). The start time is staggered to avoid gridlock in the Colehill area. For the Prep School, Open Afternoon starts at 2pm, the Year 2 parents are expected at 2.30pm and for Year 1, Reception and the Nursery parents, the start time is 3pm. This will hopefully give everyone the opportunity to walk around the school informally with their children, enjoying the displays and meeting the staff. Parking will be on all spaces available so please look out for signs.
Please complete the proforma which is being sent home with every pupil this evening (and is also being sent as an attachment with this letter) to let us know whether you are coming to Open Afternoon and, if not, who will be collecting, and taking your child home.
The 1st XI v Fathers’ Cricket Match begins at 2.00 pm across the road and the 1st IX v Mothers’ Rounders Match at 2.15 pm on the lower field. Thank you to the parents who have organised these teams. The Tennis Tournament will also be taking place (see pro-forma attached). Finally there will be a Dumpton Tea served from 4 pm on the front lawn. Children may depart from 4.15 pm. I should remind everyone that school buses will not be running that evening (as stated in the Programme of Events for the Summer Term).
While we are crossing our fingers for sunshine on Open Afternoon, in the event of wet weather, please still come to the school to look at the children’s displays and, above all, eat the tea – Steph’s cakes must not go to waste! The only change to the plan above will be no cricket, rounders or tennis, then tea at 3.30pm in the Dining Hall/Assembly Hall and departure from 4pm.
Parents’ Maths Seminar
Thank you very much to the 50+ parents who supported the Maths Evening on Tuesday. Mrs Sharp was delighted to see you all there and wondered if you would like a copy of Mrs Crisell’s Powerpoint presentation that went along with the talk. Please e-mail Mrs Crisell directly (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thank you for your support for Indian Sub-Continent Day today. It is one of our most colourful days, with an array of outfits and a special curry from Steph. Funds collected will be split between the Awake Mercy Children’s Home in Tamil Nadu and the Oxfam Nepal Earthquake Appeal. Thank you also for contributions to the appeal for clothing organised by Sue Brown (93 bags – a tremendous effort).
The Pet Show took place this afternoon, with a nervous Headmaster, judging various categories such as behaviour and personality, trying not to upset the children (or the parents)!
Congratulations to the pupils who took part in the IAPS National Swimming Finals held last weekend. Jessica K came 3rd in the U12 girls 25m Butterfly and Katie M 5th in the U13 girls 50m Backstroke – outstanding results in an extremely competitive gala. We now look forward to watching our stars of the future at the Year 2 Swimming Gala next Monday (18 May).
Well done to the senior girls who came runners-up to Twyford in the King Edward’s Rounders Competition with Beanie C voted the fielder of the tournament. There were many other promising performances across the 18 fixtures, with the 1st XI holding on for a draw at Port Regis thanks to some obdurate defending from Jacob B and Ben H.
Year 4 Camp Take 2
Good luck to 4P who are camping in the grounds with Mr Ashworth and his team this evening. The weather again looks set to be fair(ish) and I am sure that they will enjoy themselves just as much as 4C did - although I hope they get a little more sleep than their peers last week …
PS Great Gatsby Ball - only the last few tables are still available so please hand in your requests for tickets at the Front Office before it’s too late. Tickets and wine pre-order forms were sent out last week and many forms have been received - thank you. If you haven’t sent yours in yet please do so as soon as possible. Spare forms can be found in the Front Office, or can be requested by email to email@example.com.
